Description

Construct a short 15 x 4 foot sidewalk and complete a 3-foot extension to an existing sidewalk. Budget constraints and accessibility made the use of a rented concrete mixer unreasonable for these projects.

The 15 x 4 foot sidewalk required approximately 1/2 cubic yards of concrete. Six 80 lb bags of pre-bagged concrete were mixed one at a time using the CreteSheet and poured into the forms starting at one end of the sidewalk. Next the concrete was rough troweled, and then another six bags were mixed individually again followed by rough troweling. This procedure was repeated until the form was filled.

Next we gave the surface a smoother finish and used a rounded trowel to put the final touches on the perimeter edges. This thirty-bag project took less than two hours from start to finish.

The sidewalk extension was also easily completed using the CreteSheet. The concrete was mixed next to the forms and poured directly from the CreteSheet into the formed area. This entire project, which took seven 80 lb bags of concrete, was completed within 30 minutes.

HintIf possible, a water hose with a spray nozzle is an excellent tool to have near a mixing location. A hose can aid in mixing by adding water in small amounts until concrete consistency is met.

Project moral

For small jobs, save both money and effort using a CreteSheet.
